 In 2000, the Saint John Parking Commission commissioned Hardy Stevenson and Associates Limited (HSAL) and Lea Consulting to lead a study of on-street parking in the City of Saint John. The review was required due to the need for improved access, snow removal and street cleaning activities. An extensive inventory of on- and off-street parking opportunities was completed. The study recommended that within the Central Peninsula, alternative side of street parking be implemented.
In 2008, Saint John Parking Commission again commissioned the HSAL team to meet with members of the public and determine whether a review of the current system of alternative side of street parking is required. And, if there are areas that need review, what the scope of such a study should be.
HSAL, supported by LEA Consulting Limited has been hired to: review the results and recommendations of the 2000 study; explore the current parking system design; hear and assess comments from residents; and make recommendations for changes to the current system.
Public consultation is an essential element of this review. The HSAL team is convening two public meetings to: explain how the current parking system works; determine whether there are areas of alternative side of street parking that will need to be revisited; and receive input on recommended changes.
